Study Title: Knowledge, attitudes, and practice patterns among General Practitioners in the prevention of recurrent kidney stones; with a focus on dietary modulation
Chief Investigator: Mr. Derek Hennessey, Consultant Urologist and Endourologist, Mercy University Hospital, Ireland
Medical Student: Miss Saule O’Brien

This survey investigates the understanding and treatment of kidney stones by general practitioners. Kidney stones are a very common and painful condition. The current prevalence rate is 14%. After treatment, the lifetime recurrence rate is 70%. Thus, prevention of recurrence is becoming an important issue. Dietary and lifestyle changes are key to kidney stone prevention. Kidney stone patients will ask their General Practitioners for advice on this.

This research has be approved by Cork Research Ethics Committee of the Cork Teaching Hospitals and University College Cork. All responses are anonymous and no identifying information will be collected. Only those directly involved with the project will have access to the data.

Participation is voluntary. If you choose to participate in the study, it is estimated to take 3 minutes to complete. Information on what advice to give to patients to prevent kidney stone recurrence  is at the end of the survey.
